A study led by research professor madhwa raj.

After my mum’s diagnosis, my first instinct was to research how I could help and what holistic treatment methods there are as well as her medical treatment. I suppose this was my coping mechanism, I tend not to get emotional in serious situations and have more of a critical thinking way of dealing with things.

After hours of trawling through the internet, I came across this study by Madhwa Raj and I found it incredibly interesting and thought-provoking. Madhwa found that a combination of six natural compounds killed 100% of breast cancer cells without toxic effects on the normal cells. The six compounds are also known as the ‘super cocktail’ and are found in vegetables, fruits, spices, and plant roots.

The research team tested ten known protective chemical nutrients that are found in foods such as broccoli, apples, tofu, and turmeric roots before settling upon six. The six super compounds are:

  • Curcumin also known as turmeric.

  • Isoflavone from soybeans.

  • Indo-3 Carbional from cruciferous plants.

  • C-Physocyanin from spirulina.

  • Reservatrol from grapes

  • Quercetin a flavonoid present in fruit, veg, and tea.

The researchers administered the super cocktail at bioavailable levels to both breast cancer cells and control cells. They tested the compounds individually and in combination. By doing this they found that the compounds were ineffective individually but together the compounds suppressed breast cancer growth by more than 80%. The compounds caused cell cycle arrest, which then triggers the process that leads to the death of 100% of breast cancer cells.

The fact that it killed 100% of the breast cancer cells with no toxic side effects on normal cells really intrigued me and I have purchased some of the compounds in powdered form. Once I have enough money to purchase the rest of the compounds, we will see if creating a drink from them or incorporating them into her diet will do anything. I have also looked into other studies and typed them up, this will then be used within my project.
